Below, we explore the taxes that apply to different modes of conducting business.

  • Corporate profit tax — 15%
    * if you have under ten employees and your revenue does not exceed €300,000, your profit tax will be 0% for the first year and 5% after that.
  • Corporate dividend payout tax — 15%
    * unless a foreign company owns at least 10% of shares with voter rights. Then, a 0% dividend payout tax applies.
  • Value-added tax (VAT) — 21%*
    * for books, public transport, and hospitality services, it is 9%; for pharmaceuticals, drugs, and products that help the disabled, VAT is 5%
  • Land tax — 0.09-4% in Klaipėda.
  • Real estate tax — 0.05-3% in Klaipėda.
  • Employees – 20% 
    Or 32% if annual income exceeds the NIA by at least 84 times.
  • Self-employed – 12.52% 
    (without pension accrual in pillar I and II funds). 10% of income is tax-deductible.
  • For employees – 21.27% or 14.29% of salary.
    Employer share is (1.77%) and employee share is (19.5%) under an open-ended contract without accrual of pension.
    Or employer share is (1.77%) and foreign employee share is (12.52%) with a working visa under an employment contract.
  • For the self-employed – 12.52% 
    Plus mandatory social insurance, which is €42.37/month. 10% of income is tax-deductible for the self-employed.

Financial and other support measures.

  • Klaipeda City Municipality Support for Small and Medium Businesses funds under two programs:
    1. Cost Reimbursement: 5 measures that help reimburse business start-up and business development costs, up to €1,500.
    2. Partial financing: business projects representing Klaipėda are reimbursed up to €5,000.

  • The Employment Service Measure for Self-Employment. This program is intended for the unemployed from vulnerable groups (this includes the disabled, persons under 29, and persons over 45) who want to start a business. Read more here
