As Customs Compliance Manager at Ahlers you will be part of an operational team working on projects around the world. Ahlers offers her customers logistics solutions which go beyond bringing goods from supplier to recipient. We manage the supply chain needs in all geographical corners, which means that you will manage and/or coordinate with your partners and colleagues the transport, customs clearance, warehousing, order to cash, reporting and other activities necessary for the project of your customers.

Key functional duties

  • Represent Trade Due Diligence / Sanctions Compliance by maintaining consultative communication with management, corporate legal, and staff across multiple business functions
  • Direct, manage and maintain overall customs compliance procedures to ensure that Ahlers Group companies operate in conformity with various rules and regulations on import/export/international trade
  • Work with analysts and subject matter experts to facilitate trade processes, develop, recommend, and implement the most effective compliant solutions to support supply chain decisions
  • Monitor regulatory and legislative changes as well as oversee pre-classification of goods and interpret and respond to inquiries
  • Check goods (pre-)classification according to the Harmonized System (HS) or HTS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule), Combined Nomenclature (CN) / TARIC Code, and ECCN / Export Control
  • Verify planned sale transactions/shipments / HS codes for compliance with regulatory requirements and interpret relevant import and export regulations to conclude how they apply to the subject Ahlers transaction
  • Perform Restricted Party Screening and analyze results / guide the business as it relates to exports
  • Interface with inquiry initiator, forwarding agents, customs brokers, EU customs authorities, and external consultants
  • Follow Ahlers Sanctions Compliance Due Diligence procedure, audit transactions, and report findings

Key Competencies

  • Five-plus years of professional experience in international trade, customs brokerage, and regulatory compliance
  • Experience with export supplies from EU to CIS and CIS to EU
  • Customs Broker License is preferred
  • Ability to understand customer needs and deliver client-focused solutions
  • Expertise in international business, supply chain management, logistics
  • Proficiency in consulting/interpreting HS, HTS, TARIC, and Export Control
  • Knowledge of export specifics and required documentation for dual-use goods to prove their compliance and civil use purposes / end-user declaration
  • Self-navigation in current legislation related to and where sanctions, export regulations, lists of restricted parties (persons / legal entities), transport mode, etc can be found/checked

Specific Skills

  • Experienced MS office user
  • Experienced TMS user (Knowledge Logismart and/or Alaska is a plus)
  • Experienced Trade/Accounting program user (Knowledge Finvalda is a plus)
  • Knowledge of English at the Upper-Intermediate level (B1 or higher)
  • Knowledge of Russian at the Upper-Intermediate level (B1 or higher)
  • Knowledge of Lithuanian is a plus
